To honor students’ academic merits and non-academic achievements, HKUST offers well over a thousand scholarships and awards funded by the University’s internal resources, Government scholarship endowment, or donations from corporate donors and caring community leaders. Many types of scholarships, including admission scholarships, scholarships for continuing students, exchange scholarships and non-academic achievement scholarships, are available for both local and non-local undergraduate students.
In general, local or non-local students do not have to submit applications for admission scholarships. Scholarship awards will be issued together with admission offers to deserving students.
For local students admitted through the Joint University Programs Admissions System (JUPAS), academic performance in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) is the most important criterion for awards.
For local or non-local International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma holders, students are awarded based on the number of IB Total Points.
Scholarships are also awarded to students holding GCEAL/ International AL qualifications with outstanding results. HKUST also values students’ excellent achievement in International /Asian Olympiad competitions of various academic subject disciplines. High achievers in those mostly recognized competitions will be considered for scholarships.
